BOOK NAME: How To Survive Middle School
AUTHOR: Donna Gephart

We all grow up thinking that perhaps one day we are destined to do great things. Eleven year old David Greenberg is no different, and like his hero Jon Stewart, someday David hopes to have his own TV talk show. And as many of us discover at the start of our life’s journey, we find that the road is tough and full of obstacles. Now David is about to face his toughest hurdle yet, middle school! In his free time, David enjoys making his own talk show, with segments featuring a top “6 ½ list” and appearances by his hamster, Hammy. While not quite a TV personality, David manages to become a rising star on YouTube. Because of this, thousands of people are now watching David’s show, with some unexpected results (friends come and go, but the internet is forever). With all this going on, how will David ever survive middle school?

I have read a lot of books about middle school and this has to be one of my new favorites. Starting middle school can be a trying time. The comforts of elementary school are gone, and kids are progressing at different stages. So it can make things (as adults like to put it) awkward. I thought this book may have exaggerated middle school a bit too much at times, but this only added to the humor. This is one of those great books that make you laugh out loud but also tugs at your heartstrings too. Obviously, I recommend this book for kids in middle school or kids going into it soon. Enjoy it and remember, we all can survive middle school, I am a living example.
